In Kaunas, in the heart of Žemėji Šančiai, the “Drobės” factory, built in 1922, is today experiencing a new stage. The building, renovated a few years ago, has become a creative and dynamic space where business, art and community come together. The “MATERIJA” space, located on the first floor, stands out for its concept – it is not a traditional exhibition hall, but a living gallery and a “showroom” of unique manufacturers, where ideas are born and inspiration is shared.
The historical spirit of the building has been preserved in today’s interior. Authentic details – high ceilings, brick walls, industrial character – subtly blend with modern solutions. It is this environment that allows us to look at furniture and its place in the interior in a different way.
Furniture in a new context: design that reveals itself
In the “MATERIJA” space, you can also meet us – UAB “Jasevičiaus baldai”, a family business that has been nurturing a long-standing tradition of furniture manufacturing. Our project manager Kristina Jasevičė describes this space as a place where furniture is revealed in a new way.
“Industrial interior meets the warmth of wooden furniture here. Natural light, the height of the space, and textures allow us to see tables and chairs differently – their shapes, wood patterns, and colors stand out,” says K. Jasevičė.
Even familiar furniture takes on a new character in this environment. Customers often notice that the same piece of furniture seen elsewhere looks completely different in the “MATERIJA” space. This once again confirms the great importance of context – light, space, materials and the overall interior solution. This space is more than an exhibition for us – it is a place where we can not only present our products, but also rediscover them ourselves.
